Defect: BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2017-2018 C Evolution motorcycles. The front wheel may splash water onto the electrical plug connection of the DC/DC converter's 12V battery ground cable lug, resulting in corrosion of the electrical contacts. (excerpt)
Consequence: Corrosion on the electrical contacts may cause overheating, increasing the risk of a fire. (excerpt)
Remedy: Dealers will replace the cable section with the ground cable lug with a repair cable kit, free of charge. In addition, the 12V plug connector to the DC/DC converter will be checked; if contact corrosion is found to be present, additional sections of the wiring harness will be replaced, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 13, 2026. Owners may contact BMW customer service (excerpt)
Defect: BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2017 BMW C650 GT and BMW C Evolution scooters for failing to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 120, "Wheels and rims-other than passenger cars." The front rims may not be marked with the required rim type and the DOT designation.
Consequence: Since the rim is not marked with the rim size and the DOT designation, a tire of the incorrect size may be installed on this rim, affecting the handling of the scoter and increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: BMW will notify owners, and dealers will replace any rims that are not correctly marked, free of charge. Interim notices informing owners of the safety risk were mailed September 26, 2017. Owners will receive a second notice when the remedy becomes available. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.
Do not drive: No. Park outside: No.

Notes on this record
Complaints from the API and bulk file are merged and deduplicated by ODI number; the API alone misses records.
System and subsystem counts are numbers of distinct complaints, recalls or communications that name them. One record can name several systems, so shares across systems can add to more than 100 percent; a single share never exceeds 100 percent.
Recalls are counted once per campaign, investigations once per action and manufacturer communications once per NHTSA id, even when NHTSA lists several model names for the same record.
A sales denominator is a calendar-year proxy, not the population of vehicles still in use. Rates are copied from verified pipeline output.
NHTSA's complaints API and bulk file list no complaint for this make, model and model year in this data build.
