Date: 2001-08-15. Systems: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC.
Defect: VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: 3-WHEEL ON-ROAD POLICE VEHICLES. A SPLASH GUARD FITTED TO THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE, LOCATED ABOVE THE DIFFERENTIAL, COULD COME IN CONTACT WITH THE REAR BRAKE LINES, CAUSING DAMAGE OR LEAKAGE. THE MODELS INVOLVED ARE: 1996-2001 MODELS 898465B MANUFACTURED FROM OCTOBER 1996 TO JULY 2001; 1994-2001 MODELS 878464B MANUFACTURED FROM NOVEMBER 1, 1994 TO JULY 2001; 1997-2000 (excerpt)
Consequence: BRAKE FLUID LEAKAGE COULD INCREASE THE BRAKING CAPABILITY OF THE VEHICLE, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH. (excerpt)
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A NEW SPLASH GUARD WHICH WILL CREATE CLEARANCE FOR THE BRAKE LINE. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN SEPTEMBER 17, 2001. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT RANSOMES/CUSHMAN AT 1-402-474-8568. Notes on this record
Complaints from the API and bulk file are merged and deduplicated by ODI number; the API alone misses records.
System and subsystem counts are numbers of distinct complaints, recalls or communications that name them. One record can name several systems, so shares across systems can add to more than 100 percent; a single share never exceeds 100 percent.
Recalls are counted once per campaign, investigations once per action and manufacturer communications once per NHTSA id, even when NHTSA lists several model names for the same record.
A sales denominator is a calendar-year proxy, not the population of vehicles still in use. Rates are copied from verified pipeline output.
NHTSA's complaints API and bulk file list no complaint for this make, model and model year in this data build.
