Defect: CERTAIN FLATBED, DUMP, TRUCK DOLLY, UNLOADER, FRAMELESS, AND PUP TRAILERS FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 121, "AIR BRAKE SYSTEMS." THESE VEHICLES HAVE INACCURATE WEIGHT-RELATED INFORMATION ON THE CERTIFICATION LABELS.
Consequence: IF THAT INACCURATE INFORMATION IS RELIED UPON BY THE OWNER OF THE VEHICLE, THEN EXTRA WEIGHT LOADED ONTO A VEHICLE COULD AFFECT THE AIR BRAKE SYSTEM PERFORMANCE.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL CORRECT THE CERTIFICATION LABEL. OWNER NOTIFICATION IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING SEPTEMBER OR OCTOBER 2002.
