Defect: Garden State Bus Group (Garden State) is recalling certain 2015 Garden State Double Deck Buses. The roof emergency exit may be incorrectly located towards the center of the passenger compartment and not in the rear, as required. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 217, "Bus Emergency Exits and Window Retention and R (excerpt)
Consequence: If the emergency exit is located in the wrong location, it can cause a delay in exiting the vehicle in the event of an emergency, increasing the risk of injury. (excerpt)
Remedy: Garden State will notify owners, and dealers will install an additional emergency exit hatch in the rear portion of the lower level that opens to the upper level, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Garden State customer service at 1-888-800-3779. (excerpt)

Notes on this record
Complaints from the API and bulk file are merged and deduplicated by ODI number; the API alone misses records.
System and subsystem counts are numbers of distinct complaints, recalls or communications that name them. One record can name several systems, so shares across systems can add to more than 100 percent; a single share never exceeds 100 percent.
Recalls are counted once per campaign, investigations once per action and manufacturer communications once per NHTSA id, even when NHTSA lists several model names for the same record.
A sales denominator is a calendar-year proxy, not the population of vehicles still in use. Rates are copied from verified pipeline output.
NHTSA's complaints API and bulk file list no complaint for this make, model and model year in this data build.
