15V820000

Date: 2015-12-07. Systems: SEAT BELTS.

Defect: Polaris Industries, Inc. (Polaris) is recalling certain model year 2015 GEM EL, ES, E4, E4S, ELXD, E6, E6S, and E2 vehicles manufactured December 15, 2014, to August 25, 2015. The seat belts in the affected vehicles have retractor mechanisms that may fail, causing the seat belt to be stuck in one position. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safe (excerpt)

Consequence: If the seat belt does not retract or extend, the seat occupant may not be properly secured in the event of a crash, increasing their risk of injury. (excerpt)

Remedy: GEM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the seat belt assemblies, free of charge. The recall began on December 31, 2015. Owners may contact GEM Consumer Service Department at 1-855-743-3436. Polaris' number for this recall is L-15-02. (excerpt)

Do not drive: No. Park outside: No.

Notes on this record

  • Complaints from the API and bulk file are merged and deduplicated by ODI number; the API alone misses records.
  • System and subsystem counts are numbers of distinct complaints, recalls or communications that name them. One record can name several systems, so shares across systems can add to more than 100 percent; a single share never exceeds 100 percent.
  • Recalls are counted once per campaign, investigations once per action and manufacturer communications once per NHTSA id, even when NHTSA lists several model names for the same record.
  • A sales denominator is a calendar-year proxy, not the population of vehicles still in use. Rates are copied from verified pipeline output.
  • NHTSA's complaints API and bulk file list no complaint for this make, model and model year in this data build.
