Defect: Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain model year 2010, 2012 and 2013 VFR1200F and VFR1200FD motorcycles. Manufacturing or assembly errors may result in the affected motorcycles having driveshaft universal joint bearings that may prematurely wear which can cause the universal joint to separate or break.
Consequence: If the universal joint separates, the motorcycle would stall. If the universal joint breaks, it may interfere with the swing arm and lock the rear wheel. Either condition could increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Honda will be notify owners, and dealers will replace the driveshaft, free of charge. The recall began on December 29, 2015, however parts may not be available until mid-2016. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-800-999-1009. Honda's number for this recall is JW2.

Notes on this record
Complaints from the API and bulk file are merged and deduplicated by ODI number; the API alone misses records.
System and subsystem counts are numbers of distinct complaints, recalls or communications that name them. One record can name several systems, so shares across systems can add to more than 100 percent; a single share never exceeds 100 percent.
Recalls are counted once per campaign, investigations once per action and manufacturer communications once per NHTSA id, even when NHTSA lists several model names for the same record.
A sales denominator is a calendar-year proxy, not the population of vehicles still in use. Rates are copied from verified pipeline output.
NHTSA's complaints API and bulk file list no complaint for this make, model and model year in this data build.
