One complaint can name several systems, so shares can add to more than 100 percent.
Confidence is the model's own probability for the label it chose (0 to 1), not accuracy.
Model-generated labels on tagged complaints only. Model years 2013 and newer are tagged in full; 2012 in part (see tagged_share); earlier model years have no tags. NHTSA's own flags remain separate in the complaints block.
Defect: Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2017 Infiniti QX30 vehicles. The steering shaft bore hole for the universal joint bearing may allow excessive movement that, over time, could result in the separation of the bearing and universal joint.
Consequence: A separated universal joint bearing can cause a loss of steering control and increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the lower steering shaft, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 30, 2021. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's number for this recall is PG1CF.
Defect: Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling 2017-2018 Infiniti QX30 vehicles. The driver's air bag may unexpectedly deploy due to insufficient grounding of the steering components if an electrostatic discharge occurs and the air bag clockspring is broken.
Consequence: If the driver air bag inadvertently deploys, it can increase the risk of injury and a crash.
Remedy: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will add sufficient grounding to the steering components, free of charge. The recall began March 26, 2018. Owners may contact Infiniti customer service at 1-800-622-6200, option 7.
Defect: Nissan North America Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2017 Infiniti QX30 vehicles. The affected vehicles have a driver-side curtain air bag inflator initiator that may fail to ignite during a crash, preventing the air bag from deploying.
Consequence: If the air bag fails to deploy in the event of a crash, it can increase the risk of injury.
Remedy: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver-side curtain air bag assembly, free of charge. The recall began on May 2, 2017. Owners may contact Infiniti customer Service at 1-800-662-6200.
Defect: Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2017 Infiniti QX30 vehicles manufactured August 11, 2016, to September 27, 2016. The affected vehicles have a passenger air bag inflator initiator that may fail to ignite during a crash, preventing the air bag from deploying. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) numbe (excerpt)
Consequence: A passenger air bag that fails to deploy in the event of a crash can increase the risk of injury. (excerpt)
Remedy: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will replace the passenger air bag assembly, free of charge. The recall began on March 21, 2017. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261. (excerpt)

Desiccated Air Bag Inflator Rupture
From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupt

Notes on this record
Complaints from the API and bulk file are merged and deduplicated by ODI number; the API alone misses records.
System and subsystem counts are numbers of distinct complaints, recalls or communications that name them. One record can name several systems, so shares across systems can add to more than 100 percent; a single share never exceeds 100 percent.
Recalls are counted once per campaign, investigations once per action and manufacturer communications once per NHTSA id, even when NHTSA lists several model names for the same record.
A sales denominator is a calendar-year proxy, not the population of vehicles still in use. Rates are copied from verified pipeline output.
