Defect: Kovatch Mobile Equipment Corp. (KME) is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 Predator SS Pumper vehicles manufactured January 17, 2015, to July 21, 2015, and 2014-2016 FDNY Pumper vehicles manufactured May 21, 2014, to July 27, 2015. The affected vehicles may have replacement drive shafts that may twist and fail during use.
Consequence: Failure of the driveshaft may leave the fire truck immobilized in traffic, increasing the risk of a crash. Additionally, the truck may not be able to respond to an emergency, increasing the chances of injury for those at risk.
Remedy: KME has notified owners, and dealers replaced the drive shafts, free of charge. All affected vehicles have been remedied, free of charge. Owners may contact KME customer service at 1-800-235-3926.
Do not drive: No. Park outside: No.

Notes on this record
Complaints from the API and bulk file are merged and deduplicated by ODI number; the API alone misses records.
System and subsystem counts are numbers of distinct complaints, recalls or communications that name them. One record can name several systems, so shares across systems can add to more than 100 percent; a single share never exceeds 100 percent.
Recalls are counted once per campaign, investigations once per action and manufacturer communications once per NHTSA id, even when NHTSA lists several model names for the same record.
A sales denominator is a calendar-year proxy, not the population of vehicles still in use. Rates are copied from verified pipeline output.
NHTSA's complaints API and bulk file list no complaint for this make, model and model year in this data build.
