Defect: Spartan Motors USA (Spartan) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 MetroStar Chassis cabs built for Emergency Response use and ILAV Chassis cabs for Department of Defense use, manufactured December 9, 2014 to June 3, 2015 and equipped with certain drive axles manufactured by Marmon-Herrington. The affected axles have hex nuts on the flange yoke that may not have been properly tightened.
Consequence: If the hex nuts are not tightened to specification, the driveshaft may disconnect from the drive axle, resulting in a loss of propulsion and increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Spartan will notify owners and dealers will inspect the hex nuts, tightening them as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on December 16, 2015. Owners may contact Marmon Herrington customer service at 1-517-543-6400 or contact Spartan customer service at 1-800-543-4277.

Notes on this record
Complaints from the API and bulk file are merged and deduplicated by ODI number; the API alone misses records.
System and subsystem counts are numbers of distinct complaints, recalls or communications that name them. One record can name several systems, so shares across systems can add to more than 100 percent; a single share never exceeds 100 percent.
Recalls are counted once per campaign, investigations once per action and manufacturer communications once per NHTSA id, even when NHTSA lists several model names for the same record.
A sales denominator is a calendar-year proxy, not the population of vehicles still in use. Rates are copied from verified pipeline output.
NHTSA's complaints API and bulk file list no complaint for this make, model and model year in this data build.
