14V371000

Date: 2014-06-26. Systems: EQUIPMENT.

Defect: Terex South Dakota, Inc. (Terex) is recalling certain model year 2009-2013 LT38, LT40, LTM40, NT29, TL37, HR40, L13i, and TPL40 aerial devices manufactured on 2009-2013 Ford F-350, F-450, or F-550 Super Duty chassis with a 6.8L engine, and equipped with certain Muncie Power Products PTO Assemblies. In the affected vehicles, oil may leak from the PTO pressure switch onto a thermal blanket covering (excerpt)

Consequence: The leaking oil may soak into the thermal blanket covering the exhaust, which when combined with heat from exhaust, may result in an increased risk of fire. (excerpt)

Remedy: Terex will notify owners, and dealers will install a new pressure switch kit that moves the switch away from the exhaust system, free of charge. The recall began in September 15, 2014. Owners may contact Terex customer service at 1-605-882-4000. Terex's number for this recall is SN611. (excerpt)

Do not drive: No. Park outside: No.

Notes on this record

  • Complaints from the API and bulk file are merged and deduplicated by ODI number; the API alone misses records.
  • System and subsystem counts are numbers of distinct complaints, recalls or communications that name them. One record can name several systems, so shares across systems can add to more than 100 percent; a single share never exceeds 100 percent.
  • Recalls are counted once per campaign, investigations once per action and manufacturer communications once per NHTSA id, even when NHTSA lists several model names for the same record.
  • A sales denominator is a calendar-year proxy, not the population of vehicles still in use. Rates are copied from verified pipeline output.
  • NHTSA's complaints API and bulk file list no complaint for this make, model and model year in this data build.
