Defect: YAMAHA IS RECALLING 9,600 MY 2006-2007 CP250 AND MY 2005-2007 YP400 MOTORCYCLES. THE ENGINE COULD STALL AND BE DIFFICULT TO RESTART BECAUSE THE WIRE TERMINALS IN THE FUEL PUMP WIRE COUPLER HAVE CORRODED. WATER CAN ENTER FROM THE MAIN WIRE HARNESS END AND RUN THROUGH THE HARNESS TO THE FUEL PUMP COUPLER. (excerpt)
Consequence: IF THE WATER REMAINS IN THE COUPLER FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, THE TERMINALS CAN BECOME CORRODED, WHICH CAN PREVENT THE FUEL PUMP FROM OPERATING PROPERLY. IF THIS CORROSION AFFECTS FUEL PUMP OPERATION WHILE THE SCOOTER IS BEING RIDDEN, THERE COULD BE A CRASH RESULTING IN INJURY OR DEATH. (excerpt)
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A SUB-HARNESS WHICH IS DESIGNED TO ALLOW ANY WATER BETWEEN THE WIRE HARNESS AND THE FUEL PUMP TO DRAIN OUT BEFORE IT REACHES THE FUEL PUMP. THE DEALER WILL ALSO INSPECT THE CONNECTORS. IF EITHER THE MAIN WIRE HARNESS CONNECTOR OR THE FUEL PUMP CONNECTORS IS ALREADY CORRODED, THE CORRESPONDING ASSEMBLY(IES) WILL ALSO BE REPLACED. THE RECALL BEGAN ON MAY 9, 2008. OWNERS MAY (excerpt)
Defect: ON CERTAIN MOTORCYCLES, A LEAK AT THE FUEL PUMP SEAL MAY ALLOW FUEL LEAKAGE.
Consequence: FUEL LEAKAGE, IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE, COULD RESULT IN A FIRE.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP SEAL FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JUNE 18, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT YAMAHA AT 1-800-962-7926.

Notes on this record
Complaints from the API and bulk file are merged and deduplicated by ODI number; the API alone misses records.
System and subsystem counts are numbers of distinct complaints, recalls or communications that name them. One record can name several systems, so shares across systems can add to more than 100 percent; a single share never exceeds 100 percent.
Recalls are counted once per campaign, investigations once per action and manufacturer communications once per NHTSA id, even when NHTSA lists several model names for the same record.
A sales denominator is a calendar-year proxy, not the population of vehicles still in use. Rates are copied from verified pipeline output.
