22V106000

Date: 2022-02-24. Systems: FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL.

Defect: Temsa (Temsa) is recalling certain 2020 TS45 motorcoaches equipped with certain Cummins X12 diesel engines. The fuel tubes between the fuel rail and the injectors for cylinders four, five, and six may fatigue and crack, which can result in a high pressure fuel leak.

Consequence: A high pressure fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source can increase the risk of a fire.

Remedy: On engines with 75 miles or less, dealers will install vibration isolators to the fuel tubes. Engines with more than 75 miles will receive new fuel tubes with vibration isolators, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a schedule for recall notification. Owners may contact Temsa's customer service at 1-833-628-3672.

Defect: Temsa is recalling certain 2014-2020 TS45 buses. The external release handle for the roof emergency exit may have a rusted wire, which could break when force is applied to open the exit. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 217, "Bus Emergency Exits and Window Retention and Release."

Consequence: A broken handle wire on the emergency exit can delay passengers from exiting the vehicle during an emergency, increasing their risk of injury.

Remedy: Temsa service centers will replace the external handle wire, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on August 12, 2021. Owners may contact Temsa customer service at 1-800-625-9319.

Consequence: A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.

Remedy: Cummins will inspect the rail threads and fuel lines, and replace the rail as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 30, 2021. Owners may contact Temsa customer service at 1-800-625-9319.

Notes on this record

  • Complaints from the API and bulk file are merged and deduplicated by ODI number; the API alone misses records.
  • System and subsystem counts are numbers of distinct complaints, recalls or communications that name them. One record can name several systems, so shares across systems can add to more than 100 percent; a single share never exceeds 100 percent.
  • Recalls are counted once per campaign, investigations once per action and manufacturer communications once per NHTSA id, even when NHTSA lists several model names for the same record.
  • A sales denominator is a calendar-year proxy, not the population of vehicles still in use. Rates are copied from verified pipeline output.
  • NHTSA's complaints API and bulk file list no complaint for this make, model and model year in this data build.
