05V262000

Date: 2005-06-02. Systems: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM.

Defect: ON CERTAIN LIGHT DUTY TRUCKS, THE BATTERY CABLE MAY HAVE BEEN ROUTED INCORRECTLY DURING VEHICLE MANUFACTURING THAT COULD ALLOW THE BATTERY CABLE TO CONTACT THE EDGE OF THE REAR TRANSMISSION MOUNTING BRACKET. DURING NORMAL VEHICLE OPERATION THE BATTERY CABLE CORRUGATED PROTECTIVE CONDUIT COULD BECOME WORN AWAY AND ALLOW SHORTING OF THE POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE TO THE FRAME. (excerpt)

Consequence: THIS COULD CAUSE AN ELECTRICAL SHORT, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A FIRE. (excerpt)

Remedy: FOR MY 1999-2000 MODELS, DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND REROUTE THE CABLE CORRECTLY TO THE SMOOTH SIDE OF THE REAR TRANSMISSION MOUNTING BRACKET AND SECURE IT TO THE CHASSIS WIRING HARNESS AS DESIGNED OR WILL HAVE THE POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE REPLACED. FOR MY 2001-2002, DEALERS WILL SECURE THE BATTERY CABLE TO THE ADJACENT CHASSIS WIRING HARNESS WITH A PLASTIC TIE STRAP TO PREVENT EXCESSIVE MOVEMENT OF T (excerpt)

Do not drive: No. Park outside: No.

Notes on this record

  • Complaints from the API and bulk file are merged and deduplicated by ODI number; the API alone misses records.
  • System and subsystem counts are numbers of distinct complaints, recalls or communications that name them. One record can name several systems, so shares across systems can add to more than 100 percent; a single share never exceeds 100 percent.
  • Recalls are counted once per campaign, investigations once per action and manufacturer communications once per NHTSA id, even when NHTSA lists several model names for the same record.
  • A sales denominator is a calendar-year proxy, not the population of vehicles still in use. Rates are copied from verified pipeline output.
  • NHTSA's complaints API and bulk file list no complaint for this make, model and model year in this data build.
