6 recalls.

24V818000

Date: 2024-10-31. Systems: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, SERVICE BRAKES, AIR.

Defect: International Motors, LLC (International) is recalling certain 2021-2024 Lonestar, 2021-2025 RH, HV, MV, LT, HX, and 2022 PROSTAR vehicles, equipped with Bendix EC80 Advanced Electronic Control Units (ECU). Electrical noise and low signal to the power line carrier may cause the ECU to incorrectly process commands or stop working.

Consequence: Safety systems that depend on the ECU (Automatic Traction Control, ABS, Electronic Stability Control, Active Cruise Control, and Collison Mitigation System) may have diminished or lost functionality, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: International will work with Bendix to reprogram the ECU software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 16, 2024. Owners may contact International customer service at 1-800-448-7825. International's number for this recall is 24515.

The anti-lock brake system (ABS) indicator light does not remain illuminated when a malfunction exists, and when the vehicle's ignition switch is on, and the vehicle is in motion. As such, these vehicles (excerpt)

Consequence: An ABS indicator light that fails to remain illuminated will not alert the driver of an ABS malfunction, which could increase the risk of a crash. (excerpt)

Remedy: Towing variant vehicles under this campaign will not be repaired under recall 24V-8918. Dealers will update the software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 24, 2023. Owners may contact Navistar's customer service at 1-800-448-7825. Navistar's number for this recall is 23515. (excerpt)

Consequence: Unexpected vehicle movement can increase the risk of a crash or injury. (excerpt)

Remedy: Dealers will update the Cummins ECM software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed April 24, 2023. Owners may contact Navistar's customer service at 1-800-448-7825. Navistar's number for this recall is 23504. This recall expands previous NHTSA recall number 20V-810. (excerpt)

The hex flange lock nuts, used in the suspension and steering joints, were improperly heat treated and may lose tension over time.

Consequence: A loss of tension in the steering and suspension joints may lead to steering instability and increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will replace the hex flange lock nuts as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed January 20, 2023. Owners may contact Navistar's customer service at 1-800-448-7825. Navistar's number for this recall is 22524.

Consequence: A fractured steering gear can cause a loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will inspect the steering gear serial numbers, and replace the steering gears as necessary, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters were mailed August 18, 2022. Remedy parts are expected to become available in mid-October 2022. Owners may contact Navistar customer service at 1-800-448-7825. Navistar's number for this recall is 22513.

Remedy: Navistar will provide a warning label and installation instructions, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 14, 2022. Owners may contact Navistar customer service at 1-800-448-7825. Navistar's number for this recall is 22508.

Notes on this record

  • Complaints from the API and bulk file are merged and deduplicated by ODI number; the API alone misses records.
  • System and subsystem counts are numbers of distinct complaints, recalls or communications that name them. One record can name several systems, so shares across systems can add to more than 100 percent; a single share never exceeds 100 percent.
  • Recalls are counted once per campaign, investigations once per action and manufacturer communications once per NHTSA id, even when NHTSA lists several model names for the same record.
  • A sales denominator is a calendar-year proxy, not the population of vehicles still in use. Rates are copied from verified pipeline output.
  • NHTSA's complaints API and bulk file list no complaint for this make, model and model year in this data build.
