Defect: CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, THE TORQUE APPLIED TO THE JOINT SCREW BETWEEN THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE STEERING COLUMN WAS NOT CERTIFIED.
Consequence: IMPROPER INSTALLATION COULD RESULT IN THE ENDANGERING OF THE STEERING FUNCTIONS.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT EVERY AFFECTED VEHICLE AND, IF NECESSARY, ADJUST THE STEERING SHAFT TO MANUFACTURING SPECIFICATIONS. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN OCTOBER 20, 2003. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT LAMBORGHINI AT 1-516-829-8694.
Defect: ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, THE LOWER STEERING COLUMN SHAFT COUPLING MAY HAVE BEEN INSTALLED ONTO THE INPUT SHAFT OF THE STEERING RACK WITH TOO MUCH CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE BOTTOM OF THE COUPLING AND THE STEERING RACK INPUT SHAFT HOUSING. (excerpt)
Consequence: AS A RESULT, THE LOWER STEERING COLUMN SHAFT COUPLING COULD SEPARATE FROM THE INPUT SHAFT OF THE STEERING RACK, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH. (excerpt)
Remedy: DEALERS WILL ADJUST, IF NECESSARY, THE CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE LOWER STEERING COLUMN SHAFT COUPLING AND THE STEERING RACK INPUT SHAFT HOUSING, AND RE-TIGHTEN THE COUPLING LOCKING BOLT. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN APRIL 1, 2002. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT LAMBORGHINI (excerpt)

Notes on this record
Complaints from the API and bulk file are merged and deduplicated by ODI number; the API alone misses records.
System and subsystem counts are numbers of distinct complaints, recalls or communications that name them. One record can name several systems, so shares across systems can add to more than 100 percent; a single share never exceeds 100 percent.
Recalls are counted once per campaign, investigations once per action and manufacturer communications once per NHTSA id, even when NHTSA lists several model names for the same record.
A sales denominator is a calendar-year proxy, not the population of vehicles still in use. Rates are copied from verified pipeline output.
NHTSA's complaints API and bulk file list no complaint for this make, model and model year in this data build.
