5 recalls.

18V766000

Date: 2018-10-30. Systems: EXTERIOR LIGHTING.

Defect: Volvo Trucks North America (Volvo) is recalling certain 2004-2019 Volvo VHD trucks equipped with snow plow lamp preparation kits. The snow plow headlights can be turned on without other exterior lights, and high beam indicator will not work when the snow plow high beams are on. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, (excerpt)

Consequence: The driver may operate the vehicle with the snow plow headlights on but the marker and tail lamps off, reducing the vehicle's visibility and increasing the risk of a crash. (excerpt)

Remedy: Volvo will notify owners, and dealers will update the software related to the plow lights, free of charge. The recall began December 19, 2018. Owners may contact Volvo customer service at 1-800-528-6586. Volvo's number for this recall is RVXX1804. (excerpt)

Do not drive: No. Park outside: No.

17V258000

Date: 2017-04-18. Systems: EQUIPMENT.

Defect: Volvo Trucks North America (Volvo) is recalling certain 2015-2017 VHD trucks. The Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) for the pusher or tag axle may be incorrect on the certification label. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of 49 CFR Part 567, "Certification."

Consequence: If the GAWR information is incorrect, the operator may overload the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Volvo will notify owners and provide a corrected label along with instructions on how to properly affix the new label to their vehicle, free of charge. The recall began June 15, 2017. Owners may contact Volvo customer service at 1-800-528-6586. Volvo's number for this recall is RVXX1701.

16V735000

Date: 2016-10-13. Systems: SUSPENSION.

Defect: Volvo Trucks North America (Volvo) is recalling certain model year 2009-2016 VHD trucks manufactured from April 7, 2008, through December 9, 2015, equipped with USK non-greasable drag links. The ball joint seals may be compromised, which can allow water and other contaminants to enter the ball joints.

Consequence: If water and contaminants enter the ball joint, corrosion can occur and lead to accelerated wear, which over time can result in failure of the ball joint, possibly resulting in complete loss of steering, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Volvo will notify owners, and dealers will replace the drag links, free of charge. The recall began on December 2, 2016. Owners may contact Volvo customer service at 1-800-528-6586. Volvo's number for this recall is RVXX1606.

15V630000

Date: 2015-10-07. Systems: EXTERIOR LIGHTING.

Defect: Volvo Trucks North America (Volvo) is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 VAH and VHD trucks manufactured April 1, 2014, to August 14, 2015. The affected vehicles may be equipped with headlights that do not meet the minimum intensity requirements, resulting in insufficient illumination of the roadway. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety (excerpt)

Consequence: Headlights that provide insufficient illumination increase the risk of a crash. (excerpt)

Remedy: Volvo will notify owners, and dealers will replace the headlights, free of charge. The recall began on January 19, 2016. Owners may contact Volvo customer service at 1-800-528-6586. Volvo's number for this recall is RVXX1505. (excerpt)

Do not drive: No. Park outside: No.

14V739000

Date: 2014-11-18. Systems: POWER TRAIN.

The affected trucks may fail to re-engage the vehicle drivetrain after using the Eco-Roll feature.

Consequence: If the drivetrain does not re-engage, the vehicle's stopping distance may be lengthened, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Volvo has notified owners, and dealers will update the Eco-Roll software, free of charge. The recall began on December 10, 2014. Owners may contact Volvo customer service at 1-800-528-6586. Volvo's number for this recall is RVXX1406.

Notes on this record

  • Complaints from the API and bulk file are merged and deduplicated by ODI number; the API alone misses records.
  • System and subsystem counts are numbers of distinct complaints, recalls or communications that name them. One record can name several systems, so shares across systems can add to more than 100 percent; a single share never exceeds 100 percent.
  • Recalls are counted once per campaign, investigations once per action and manufacturer communications once per NHTSA id, even when NHTSA lists several model names for the same record.
  • A sales denominator is a calendar-year proxy, not the population of vehicles still in use. Rates are copied from verified pipeline output.
  • NHTSA's complaints API and bulk file list no complaint for this make, model and model year in this data build.
