Defect: Altec Industries Inc. (Altec) is recalling certain model year 2009-2012 Novae Sure-Trac ST81181TPL2-B-140 equipment trailers built August 31, 2009, to September 27, 2012, and manufactured with 3/16 inch thick steel tubing. The tongue of the affected trailers may crack and separate from the trailer frame.
Consequence: If the trailer tongue fails, a loss of control of the trailer or a separation of the trailer from the tow vehicle may occur, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Altec will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and repair any cracks found and add a reinforcing kit, free of charge. The recall begin on November 13, 2014. Owners may contact Altec customer service at 1-877-462-5832. Altec's number for the recall is CSN 605.

Notes on this record
Complaints from the API and bulk file are merged and deduplicated by ODI number; the API alone misses records.
System and subsystem counts are numbers of distinct complaints, recalls or communications that name them. One record can name several systems, so shares across systems can add to more than 100 percent; a single share never exceeds 100 percent.
Recalls are counted once per campaign, investigations once per action and manufacturer communications once per NHTSA id, even when NHTSA lists several model names for the same record.
A sales denominator is a calendar-year proxy, not the population of vehicles still in use. Rates are copied from verified pipeline output.
NHTSA's complaints API and bulk file list no complaint for this make, model and model year in this data build.
