Recalls

See new recalls and investigations this week.

3 recalls.

00V377000

Date: 2000-11-16. Systems: POWER TRAIN.

Defect: VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FMVSS NO. 114, "THEFT PROTECTION." WATER CONTAMINATION OF THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION OIL CAN LEAD TO VARIOUS FAILURE MODES OF THE TRANSMISSION. ONE OF THESE FAILURE MODELS RESULTS IN INCORRECT OPERATION OF THE PARK LOCK FUNCTION THAT COULD ALLOW A VEHICLE TO ROLL AWAY IF PARKED WITHOUT THE HANDBRAKE PROP (excerpt)

Consequence: UNINTENTIONAL VEHICLE MOVEMENT COULD RESULT IN A CRASH OR PERSONAL INJURY. (excerpt)

Remedy: DEALERS WILL CHECK THE PARK LOCK FUNCTION; REPOSITION THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION BREATHER TUBE; AND TEST THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID AND FLUSH IF NECESSARY. (excerpt)

Do not drive: No. Park outside: No.

00V142001

Date: 2000-10-16. Systems: ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL.

Defect: VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES. THE LOADING CONDITIONS ON THE VEHICLE'S LEFT SIDE ENGINE IDLER PULLEY CAN EXCEED THE MAXIMUM CALCULATED FIGURE OF THE ORIGINAL DESIGN SPECIFICATION. THE MATERIAL OF THE PULLEY CAN FRACTURE AND ULTIMATELY FAIL. FAILURE OF THE PULLEY MATERIAL CAN CAUSE THE PULLEY TO THROW OFF THE SERPENTINE BELT.

Consequence: THIS COULD RESULT IN A LOSS OF ENGINE AUXILIARY FUNCTIONS (POWER STEERING, WATER PUMP, ALTERNATOR, AIR CONDITIONING AND ACE).

Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL AN IMPROVED IDLER PULLEY.

Do not drive: No. Park outside: No.

00V187000

Date: 2000-07-03. Systems: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC.

Defect: VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES. ONE OR BOTH OF THE BOLTS THAT RETAIN THE BRAKE CALIPER TO THE AXLE MAY HAVE MISSED A FINAL ASSEMBLY TORQUE OPERATION. CONSEQUENTLY THEY MAY BE LOOSE OR POSSIBLY MISSING.

Consequence: CALIPER DISENGAGEMENT FROM THE AXLE COULD RESULT CAUSING REDUCED VEHICLE STABILITY WHEN BRAKING AND POSSIBLY LOCKING UP OF THE AFFECTED WHEEL.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THESE VEHICLES TO VERIFY THAT THE PROPER TORQUE HAS BEEN APPLIED.

Do not drive: No. Park outside: No.

Notes on this record

  • Complaints from the API and bulk file are merged and deduplicated by ODI number; the API alone misses records.
  • System and subsystem counts are numbers of distinct complaints, recalls or communications that name them. One record can name several systems, so shares across systems can add to more than 100 percent; a single share never exceeds 100 percent.
  • Recalls are counted once per campaign, investigations once per action and manufacturer communications once per NHTSA id, even when NHTSA lists several model names for the same record.
  • A sales denominator is a calendar-year proxy, not the population of vehicles still in use. Rates are copied from verified pipeline output.
